“Renovating for the New Life”
Many company employees have switched from daily commuting to remote work since the Corona disaster. In this environment, clients no longer feel the need to stay in the city center due to the high rents and the lack of value for the living environment.

The client chose the regional city of Tsukuba. There is a large park and wide streets lined with tall street trees. The air is clean near nature, the living environment is well developed, and access to the Tokyo metropolitan area is good.
Having been able to purchase a larger room than in the city center, they sought the freedom to live a life that would be the foundation of their own lives. Since most of their work is done remotely via online, they spend most of their daily lives in this residence and commute to the city center only on weekends.

Having been able to purchase a larger room than in the city center, they sought the freedom to live a life that would be the foundation of their own lives. Since most of their work is done remotely via online, they spend most of their daily lives in this residence and commute to the city center only on weekends.

The renovation plan that would suit their lifestyle was not to have the individual rooms as closed off interiors, but rather to have a sense of circulation and openness.
First, we dismantled all the walls of the small rooms and placed the water area in the center of the rooms so that the residents could move freely around it. The Doma is pulled in from the entrance to the back of the room, softly separating the areas of public and private space. This Doma also functions as a line of flow. On the south side of the divided area, a large living space and dining kitchen are placed, and on the north side, a workroom and bedroom are placed so that the residents can concentrate on their work.

Renovation is not just about making things and spaces new; it is about resetting the previous life itself to a new life. I wanted to respond to their choice to “renovate of lives.”
With their blessing for their new life.
