Architecture & the Media 2025 Roundtables
The fourth European Conference on Architecture & the Media took place at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona on May 26 and 27. Videos of the two-day conference are now on YouTube, and here we highlight two of the roundtables that gathered journalists to speak about the role of awards and events in architectural media.
The European Conference on Architecture & the Media was launched in 2018 “to investigate different perspectives to disseminate the core values and most cutting-edge topics of architecture through the media, either general interest press and specialized press, printed or online.” The biennial conference brings together architects, critics, journalists, broadcasters, and others involved in architectural communications to explore relevant issues within various forms of media, be they print, digital, or video.
The conference consisted of opening and closing conversations, workshops, and roundtables. The roundtables embedded below were made up of three journalists discussing their own work, followed by discussions around a particular theme: “the role of public events in fostering dynamic exchanges between architecture and architects in a dialogue with the city and its citizens” in one roundtable, and “the contemporary landscape of architectural awards” and “the criteria by which distinctions are evaluated by the editorial teams” in the other. The roundtables were moderated by Miriam Giordano (Labóh) and Ivan Blasi (Fundació Mies van de Rohe), the co-organizers of the conference.
