A NEW CITY CONNECTIVITY

The city of Suzhou is worldwide famous for its gardens and network of water canals and traditional commercial roads. However wide streets and large city blocks characterize the Suzhou New District modern development. The existing urban texture, as an archipelago of isolated urban islands, is often hardly accessible by pedestrians.
The Suzhou High Gardens, inspired by previous strategies and the city's genius loci, aim to reconnect this texture bringing back to the people the public spaces till now forgotten.
The experience of the traditional Chinese garden is unrolled and interpreted in a floating linear aggregative system of gardens and connecting lines.
A continuous series of enjoyable spaces that enrich the otherwise monotonous connections between the different urban blocks.
